Harvesting Our Potential Summer 2010 On-Farm Internships (Iowa only)

4/6/10

If you are an Iowa woman interested in exploring a career in sustainable agriculture, WFAN may be able to place you on an Iowa farm for an 8-10 week work experience internship during the 2010 growing season.

WFAN has received grant funding from the Iowa Women’s Foundation and the Iowa State University Women’s Enrichment Fund to revive our popular Harvesting Our Potential farm internship program for women.

Interested prospective interns must be 18 or older, considering a career in sustainable agriculture, and living in Iowa. If you are interested in applying, send a cover letter explaining why, and what sort of farm you would be interested in working on (e.g., livestock, vegetables, fruits, dairy, etc.), along with a resume, to this address by April 15.

If you are a farmer interested in obtaining an intern, please send a few paragraphs explaining the type of operation you have, what you would expect an intern to help with, and details such as lodging options and time of year you need help. Indicate also whether you are willing to host more than one intern, and whether you would like them to work at the same or different times of the growing season. Submit your request via email by April 15.

A committee of the WFAN board will evaluate applications from interns and farmers and facilitate the matches by May 15.

As funds are limited, a modest stipend ($500 - $750 total per person for both farmers and interns for the 8-10 week period) will be offered to four to six intern-farmer pairs. After the funds are expended, WFAN may still be able to help facilitate matches, but no stipends will be attached. Please indicate in your email whether you are willing to participate in the program without a stipend.
